Jawaa smiled and reeled in her line, setting her fishing pole down on the shore and turned to face the young hunter. "Ah don' know why chu askin' meh fo' help ta learn ta hunt... dere's mons dat know moah dan meh about it... an' ah's na' de Hunta' Legend. But... if chu wants ta heah wha' a blind hunta has ta say about it... den ah tell cha."
Jawaa reached down to pick up her fishing pole when she heard the young hunter take a seat in the sand. She sat as well, offering the young one a raw rockscale cod as she started.
The mighty hunter. Often seen as the soloing artist. *nods* Often seen as the best DPS class, depending on who you ask. *nods again* Often seen with gear that would have been better on a Shaman or Rogue or even a Warrior... bad stereotype. Those are not hunters.
There are no set type of hunters... everyone has their own style of being a hunter. But, there are three basic paths a hunter can follow some variant of, often times combining aspects of all three to suit their needs. I only have experience with one path... but I can offer my views of the others, which may or may not be accurate.
The Beast Mastery Hunter.
There are few beings that share as close a bond as a hunter and their pet. This is especially true of beast mastery hunters. The pair work together, wordlessly planning out and executing the battle. The hunter draws upon the pet for strength, as does the pet upon the hunter. As their bond grows and the pet becomes stronger, the pet becomes an increasing part of the team, doing a greater deal of damage, acting as a tank while the hunter stands back with a gun or bow shooting at the enemy. While not the most damaging path, it is said that it is the safest. Working together under this set up, a hunter and pet are a truly formidable opponent.
The Marksmanship Hunter.
Standing a long distance back, The marksman takes careful aim. He takes into account the direction of the wind, the setting of the sun, and the smell of the ogre three miles away. Unleashing his shot, the projectile flies straight and true, slicing to the very depths of the target. The opening shots of this hunter often decide the tide of the fight. There are few with the skill of ranged weapons as one who walks the path of the marksman hunter.
The Survival Hunter.
Accurate. Strong. Sure footed. and when the time calls for it, can play dead like no other. Such is the life of the survival hunter, who is skilled at staying alive. Their traps and melee attacks often hit harder and last longer than other hunters, and they are more skilled with their non-ranged attacks than other hunters. Knowledgeable about their enemies and fast to parry or dodge an attack, the survival hunter often times is the last one standing after a bad scrap.
The route you take, or whichever combination of the three you mix together depends largely on your style of hunting. If you want to rarely take damage, and have your pet be your own personal tank, Then try out Beast Mastery. If you want to see your target fall swiftly to your arrows or bullets, and do impressive numbers in a group, then maybe try being a Marksman. And if you want to.... well... survive... and still do a good amount of damage, then try to survive. All three types of hunter are soloable, just that each type has it's own method.
Jawaa smiles and pats her tiger Xaviera, who had splashed out of the sea half way through the lecture, a fish in her mouth. Looking back towards the young curious hunter, who had a bored look on his face, Jawaa spoke. "Ah tinks chu can tell wha' path ah walks... o'.. we walks..." Xav laid her head down on Jawaa's leg. "Ah know moah about beastmastereh an' some marksmanships. All ah know about survivals is jus' wha' ah been told. Ah hopes dat helps chu out.
"We all hunt in our own way, for our own reasons. The only thing that matters at the end of the day is that you have survived the hunt for another day. Never forget that as a hunter, you are also the hunted." ~Eones Icebow
