A smaller then normal troll walks to the center of the alter nervously, he shuffles his feet and rubs his pink top knot of hair as he picks up his chicken and pets her. “Now.. De ladeh darkspeh has asked meh ta perhaps teach or go ova de basics an advanced techniques o de magin” he rubs the back of his ears nervously and takes a breath. “De most important fer all mages is de spell powa in all cher weapons an cher clothes or if chew like ta call robes arma den arma” he chuckles nervously
Imporant stats for a mage doing any long bosses or a quickly moving group.
Spell power is the most important over all. It increases your damage without need of extra mana.
Spirit while most people think it’s a useless stat I think differently, in a long battle it helps you regen your mana and also when you evocate it is based off of your spirit and not any mana over 5. So if you have to choose between spirit and mana over 5 ALWAYS go with spirit.
To hit for every 1percent you have the more you will hit and that’s more damage you can do without spending mana that’s automatic, I recommend at least 3 percent to hit
Intelligence this is a far 4th, if you have plenty of spirit then you will be fine during the long fights. It doesn’t effect any of the stats except critical and if you have plenty of spell power then your critical is high as it is (you get crit from spell power)
Stamina it’s below intelligence while its nice to have mages are not ment get hit in battle and if they do they should have mana shield, or any of the shields (such as fire or ice) up if they are expecting some damage.
Basic mage tips
· I recommend downloading recap, do not measure your epeen its ment for a personal count of YOUR dps, its very unreliable when it comes to recording others.
· Experiment. Yes use different spells, see what works best for you using the recap.. see if that ice bolt, fire blast combination works and creates more damage then just blasting ice bolts.
· If your expecting a long drawn out battle make both a mana ruby and a citrine, the moment your mana goes down so you can fill up with a ruby use it right away and then your count with the citrine will start off so if its more then 3 minutes (and ive been in plenty) you can eat the citrine and get some mana back
· Use the mana pot as soon as you can after the mana ruby, this will start the count like stated before.
· You can ice block out of ANYTHING, the hoodoo piles? Yes you can.. so always experiment.. oh wait that’s tip 2.. its still important!
· NEVER EVER run away from the tank! If theres a mob running after you blink through the mob and scream to the tank.. if the tank can catch the mob the tank can taunt the mob..
· If you are hit with aoe and you don’t think you can get out.. BLINK OUT
· Blink is your best friend.. if you feel stuck blink!
Tests for yourself
Most new people on raids make alot of mistakes becuse they dont understand alot of pressure being put on them. Some of them have been raiding a while and dont understand what the class is capable of, or what are the absolute limits.. one of my points was to experment.. this isnt a ego thing but i have done most of these tests naked to prove a point... gear dosnt matter, knowing how to deal with certin situations, knowing what the absolute breaking limit of your class is and going ahead and trying to bend it as much as you can is the point. These tests, I slowly started to do.. as I praticed I found myself stressing alot less out when the sheep broke once or twice, when I pulled agro and decided to run to the tank. Some of these may seem silly... but they make sure that you are underpressure so everything else seems so d**n small. Good luck folks, I shall make videos as I go.
Mana conservation
(you may not use mana pots, only rubies and your evocate)
101- Take off your armor and go kite a stone gaurdian, its not only a pressure test but, to truly think.. should i blink? or am i better off running? Can I use rank 1 ice bolt to slow this oaf down? Kill it.. better yet.. dont get hit while killing it.
707- Put your armor on, Try two now, this is a major pressure test of how well you know your surroundings, kill both of them, I havent been able to finish this test without getting hit.
Insanity- Take it off, two at the same time, a huge mana battle and a true test of pressure and mana conservation.(bearly was able to pull it outta my blue buttocks)
Kiting
(No mana pots, only rubies and evocate)
101- Take that stone gaurdian for a walk, you must run around the entire crater with the stone gaurdian following you. Use sheep when you need to. (finished this one naked) you may not lose the stone gaurdians agro
707- Demons in winterspring, same deal all the way round it just avoiding the silly demon spawn area.
Insanity- Take the big worm thing in epl for a ride, the entire map of epl. (bearly did this one too)
AOE
(same deal no mana pots, only rubies and evocate)
101- Take out 5 furbogs in northern felwood included 1 shamen.
707- Do it naked, its a good mana conservation fight and it teaches you not to use that cone of cold and frost nova close together
Insanity- Two man living strat up to the living side with one other mage only. Great fun to be had.
Good luck, Ill post some aoe tips tomarrow
AOE
Fist and most imporant thing about aoe is DONT PANIC!
Instant arcane exposion wont save your buttocks,
In aoeing every element is imporant
If you have a tank gather everything up. Then flamestrike, charge the crowd and frost nova backing up and doing another flame strike.. when they break free if they are still alive cone of cold and run around and KEEP them away from you, using arcane explosions until your frost nova is up.. then start the whole thing again.
That is the most effective way, if you have alot of mana using blizzard and staying at a safe distance works well too.
I suggest praticing it till it comes to second nature with you.
